League Rules/Information

ROLE OF MANAGERS
Team managers serve as liason between their respective team and Hat Trick Sports. Following are the duties of the manager with respect to this Broomball program.
  1. Make sure you have a full team and at least one reserve for every game.
  2. Do not let your players face suspension by allowing them to argue a call.
  3. You are responsible for taking charge of your team’s and your spectator’s conduct. Abusive language, improper drinking, litter and other irresponsible acts will not be tolerated.
  4. Any schedule or information changes or league information will be sent to you. Make sure we have a current email address and contact phone number. It is your responsibility to pass this information along to players.
  5. Know the rules. Tell your players the rules. This will help the game run smoothly and help your team concentrate on playing.
It is the responsibility of each team manager to read and understand these policies and to see that his/her team abides by them. If there are any questions, please email Emily at edobbs@hattricksports.net or Bill@hattricksports.net.

Leagues will be governed by MSF Official State Broomball Rules except the following:
1.       Games will have two periods of 25 minutes, running time. If there is a 1 goal difference or a tie the last 2 minutes of the game will be stop time. If there is a 2 or more goal lead then the clock will run.
2.      Goal cages will be 6 feet in width and 4 feet in height. Regulation Ice Hockey nets.
3.      Grace period – only the 6:00 p.m. game will have a 10 minute grace period to field a team. After ten minutes the game will be declared a forfeit: The rink wall clock is official time.
a.       A team must have 6 players to start the game or a forfeit will be declared. The must be three women and three men on the ice, plus the goalie who can be either gender.

4.    Overtime Rule - For games that are tied after regulation play - teams will be reduced to four players and no goal keeper (2 men and 2 women), no defensive or offensive player allowed in the crease unless the ball is in the crease and icing will still be called.  The first overtime period shall be 3 minutes stop time, winner decided by most goals.  The second overtime period will be a sudden death.  Goals in the overtime period must be scored from the attacking zone.
5.    Icing occurs when any player of a defending team shoots or intentionally deflects the ball from behind their defending zone blue line and across the goal line of the opposing team. Icing is ruled automatically.
6.      Floating Blue Line/Offsides: Off-sides is called when a player from the team in possession of the ball enters the offensive zone before the ball. USA rules mark the blue line as "in" and the red line as "out." For more clarification on the floating blue line, please see the information about Zones and Offsides below:

9.      Drawbacks will be used when a ball is frozen by the goalie or the net is knocked out of place. All other turnovers will result in a face-off with the offending team being penalized one zone.
10.    Delayed Whistle – If a foul is committed by one team while the other team is in possession of the ball, the stoppage of play shall be delayed until the offending team obtains possession and control of the ball.
11. Penalties are marked as such:
